Chih Shang Township is between the Central Mountain Range and the

Coast Mountain Range. Its north runs the Xiuguluan River, and the

Beinan River flows at the south. The Tapo Lake lies in the center. Chih

Shang Farmers’ Association Specialized Rice Production and

Marketing Area lies on the basin of the alluvial fan deposited by the

two rivers at its north and south. The soil is productive and without

pollution. The irrigation system uses the spring water from the Central

Mountain Range at the west and the moisture contained in the “ cloud

waterfall” from the black ocean current, Kuroshio, at the east coast.

Containing great quality of trace elements, the water becomes a natural

formula of soil refinement and reproduction. According to the saying

“ Fine field and fertile soil arise natural beauty,” this area is the

cleanest rice field in Taiwan. This is also the reason why our “ Chih

Shang Rice” is so well-known.
